Sample 1]: Essay on Cricket Match (405 words)
Although a
cricket match is said to be "the match played by fools and watched by
idiots", the saying has become out of date these days. It has become more
and more popular throughout the world. The growing popularity of test matches
between clubs or countries has made them more popular. Since it can be watched
live on TV, people sit opposite it for hours, whether they are young or old
ones. People who do not have a TV, listen to the cricket commentary on the
radio for hours, enjoying themselves as if they are watching the match on the
ground.
What is a
cricket match? The cricket match is played between two teams with eleven
players in each team. One team does balling and fielding when two players from
the other team does batting. The batsman scores runs by running between the
wickets or by hitting the ball over or across the boundary. If the ball gets
out of the boundary touching the boundary line, batsman scores 4 runs, whereas
if the ball gets out over the boundary without touching the boundary line, 6 runs
is scored. Similarly, the fielding side may dismiss the batsman in several
ways, which is known as "wicket." The batsman may be out in these
situations: first, by bowling at the wicket (stick); second, by knocking over
the wicket with the ball; third, by catching the ball; and lastly, while
bowling, if the ball touches directly the batsman. The batting team tries to
score as many runs as they can. Likewise, the bowling and fielding teams try to
take ten wickets if possible. After that, the batting team does fielding and
bowling, whereas the fielding team does batting. The team that scores more runs
is the winner. If the score is equal, a winner is declared with the help of
wickets taken.
Although a
cricket match seems to be slow, it is fast in action. The ball is fast and
spinning; running is fast, and batting is quick. Therefore, it is a game that
helps a player keep his or her body fit. The famous cricket match is
"World Cup Cricket," which is watched by millions of people live on
TV and in the stadium.
Nepal is
also gaining popularity in cricket due to under 15(U-15) and under 19 (U-19)
team. One day is sure to come when Nepal gets the chance to participate in the
"World Cup Cricket".
