[# Sample 1]: Essay on Unemployment: Pros and Cons (247 words)

Unemployment means not having a job or being without a job. In other words, when a person has nothing to do to make a living, it is called "unemployment," and the jobless person is called "unemployed."

Many of us are much more frightened of being unemployed than we need to be. When we are unemployed, we can be our own boss or master. There is nobody to order or direct us what to do or when to do it. There are many advantages to being unemployed. They are: (i) We can get up any time we want; (ii) We don't have to be stuck in traffic jams during rush hours; (iii) There is always a holiday for us and we can go wherever we like; (iv) We have much time to do different activities like reading or watching TV; (v) We don't have to mix up with unwanted people; and (vi) the most interesting thing is that nobody comes to us to borrow money.

On the other hand, whatever is said above, we need money to keep our body and soul together. To earn money, we must be employed. Moreover, a jobless person suffers from inferiority. Like in the saying, "An empty mind, devil dwells," a jobless person has a chance to get engaged in anti-social activities like crime or drug addiction. The person has to spend a lot of time reading advertisements to look for a job. Above all, an unemployed person is looked down on in society, too.

In conclusion, it is the state that must provide jobs to its people. If it's not possible, unemployment benefits, compensation, or allowance should be provided to each unemployed person so that s/he can feel comfortable developing further skills.
