A telephone, or phone, is a system of devices that transform a person's voice into an electrical signal made up of varying electric currents. In simple words, it is a system of talking to somebody over short or long distances using wires, radio sets, or mobile phones. What one has to do is dial the number and say "hello."

There are two kinds of phones widely used in the present world: (i) landline phones, and (ii) mobile phones. The landline phone is connected by cables or wires to the telephone network, whereas the mobile phone is a small handheld device without a wire from which we can phone, send messages, and use internet service.

Just a few years ago, the message would reach the concerned person in a week or a month. Now it can reach them in a moment. Only a few seconds after dialing the number on the keypad, we will be speaking to a friend many kilometers away. This is a great achievement in science and technology. It has really made the world feel like a village.

Nothing in the world is perfect. It has some disadvantages, too. It can interrupt a person in many ways. It can disturb one's sound sleep. Similarly, it can interrupt our talks. It is upsetting because of bluff calls or unwanted calls. Moreover, it is helping to promote crimes like kidnapping, hijacking, etc.

To sum up, the telephone, a great achievement, is a close friend of mankind. It should be used wisely and rationally, knowing what it was invented for.
